Discrimination Suit Names Chicago Staffing Firms

December 07, 2012

A class-action lawsuit filed yesterday alleges Vee Pak Inc., a Johnson & Johnson supplier in Hodgkins, Ill., discriminated against African-American job applicants in its hiring practices, according to court documents. The Worker’s Law Office filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois Eastern Division on behalf of five African American plaintiffs.

Vee Pak staffs its operation both through direct hires and through multiple staffing agencies on the west and southwest side of Chicago, including Staffing Network LLC, Alternative Staffing Inc. and MVP Workforce Solutions LLC, according to court documents. The lawsuit claims African Americans who were qualified to work at Vee Pak and sought employment directly at Vee Pak and/or through its staffing agencies were repeatedly denied the opportunity to work at Vee Pak and, in some instances, denied the opportunity to apply for work at Vee Pak.
