Contract worker layoffs, hirings

January 12, 2009

Companies reducing the number of contract workers being used include Boeing, according to news reports. Meanwhile, a state agency has hired temporary workers to handle the upswing in jobless claims.

Boeing said Friday it would cut 4,500 jobs in 2009, and CNNMoney.com reported that a reduction in contract labor will account for some of the jobs lost.

The Arizona Department of Economic Security hired 45 temporary workers to help process unemployment claims, the Tucson Citizen newspaper reported today.
