Consumer Confidence Rises

January 25, 2011

The Conference Board's consumer confidence index rose to a reading of 60.6 in January from December's reading of 53.3 (1985=100).
CNNMoney.com reported the increase exceeded forecasts.
"Consumers rated business and labor market conditions more favorably and expressed greater confidence that the economy will continue to expand and generate more jobs in the months ahead," said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board consumer research center.
The consumer confidence index is based on a survey that includes a sample of 5,000 U.S. households.
