Compensation costs change least since 1980

Compensation costs for workers in private industry rose 1.5% in the 12-month period ending June 2009, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. It was the smallest percentage change since measurement of both wages and benefits compensation began in 1980.

Wages and salaries rose 1.6% in the 12-month period ending in June. The cost of benefits rose 1.3% during that time.
