Comforce Corp. (AMEX: CFS) reported an 8.5% increase in first-quarter net income to $992,000 from $914,000 in the same period last year.

First-quarter revenue rose 6.1% at the Woodbury NY-based staffing firm to $150.2 million from $141.6 million in the first quarter of 2007. Gross margin improved to 15.8% from 15.6%.

Comforce said strong results in its PRO Unlimited managed services provider offering boosted revenue. PRO Unlimited's first-quarter revenue rose 10.4% to $9.0 million.
