Clerical worker confidence hits post-recession high

September 05, 2013

Office and administrative worker confidence rose in the second quarter, according to Randstad US’ office and administration confidence index. The index reading climbed three points to a reading of 54.3 in the second quarter of 2013, its highest level in since the recession.

“Employee confidence levels have improved among almost all industries tracked by Randstad, including finance and accounting, engineering, IT and manufacturing,” said Phyllis Finley, executive vice president at Randstad US. “Two factors that may be fueling the growing confidence among overall U.S. workers are the recent strengthening of both the stock market and residential property values.”

Twenty-two percent of administrative and clerical workers believe there are more jobs available, up from 18 percent in the first quarter. The percentage of administrative and clerical workers who are confident in their ability to find a new job rose to 39 percent from 35 percent in the first quarter.

Thirty-one percent of administrative workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months, down one percentage point from 32 percent in the first quarter of 2013.

The index is based on an online survey of 427 U.S. office and administrative workers conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Randstad in April, May and June of 2013.
