05 February 2016

According to the latest Hays Salary Guide, Chinese employers will need to focus on retention this year as 44% of candidates are currently looking for a new job and a further 42% are open to hearing about new opportunities with salary being the main reason why employees leave. The guide also shows that work-life balance is the key reason why employees stay with a company.

Hays research reveals that not only are many employees already actively job hunting, but 25% want to be in a new role within the next six months with a further 21% expecting to change jobs within the year.

According to the 2016 Guide, the top motivators for job-hunting are salary or benefit package (41%), lack of career progression in their current role (40%) and seeking new challenges (33%).

The top key retention factors for employees are work-life balance (49%), job security (44%) and career progression (39%).

In China, 81% of candidates surveyed expect a salary increase of more than 6% but the research reveals that only 60% of employers will award more than 6% increases this year.
