Cash is most common holiday bonus, Express Employment survey says

Almost one-quarter, 23%, of businesses plan to give cash as a holiday bonus, according to a poll released today by Express Employment Professionals. In a separate survey, workers were also asked what type of bonus they want, with a combination of benefits topping the list at 45%.

Business were asked, “What type of holiday bonus will you give internal employees this year?”

Responses include:

  • Cash: 23%
  • A combination of benefits: 18%
  • Gift cards: 13%
  • Extra days off: 3%
  • Tangible gifts: 2%
  • Pay raises: 1%
  • We will not give out holiday bonuses: 39%

A separate survey asked workers what type of bonus they want.

  • A combination of benefits: 45%
  • Cash: 22%
  • Pay raise: 21%
  • Extra days off: 8%
  • Gift cards: 3%
  • Tangible gifts: 1%

The survey of 373 businesses was conducted in July 2015. The businesses are current or former clients of Express Employment Professionals. The survey of 872 Express associates was also conducted in July 2015.
