Canadian staffing revenue up 10.8% in 2007

Canadian staffing revenue rose 10.8% in 2007 from 2006, according to numbers released today by Statistics Canada.

Staffing industry operating revenue was C$8.90 billion (US$9.08 billion based on the Dec. 31, 2007 exchange rate) in 2007 compared with C$8.03 billion in 2006, according to Statistics Canada. Operating income excludes investment income, capital gains, extraordinary gains and other nonrecurring items. In addition, the number of staffing establishments rose 7% year-over-year to 4,698 in 2007.

Ontario generated the lion's share of staffing revenue, 59%, according to Statistics Canada. Staffing operating revenue in Ontario rose 10.8% year-over-year to C$5.26 billion (US$5.36 billion).

The number of staffing establishments in Ontario rose 12% year-over-year to 2,343 in 2007.

Alberta posted the largest year-over-year increase in staffing establishments in 2007, up 18% to 465.
