Canada gains 30,600 jobs in September

Canada added 30,600 jobs in September, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by Statistics Canada. The country's unemployment rate dipped to 8.4% in September from 8.7% in August.

Canada gained 91,600 full-time jobs in September, but that increase was partially offset by a loss of 61,000 part-time jobs.

Total employment was more than 16.8 million in September. Still, Canada posted 2.1% fewer jobs in September than a year ago.

The number of jobs in Ontario rose by 12,600 in September with employment in the province at more than 6.5 million. Ontario added 61,500 full-time jobs but lost 48,900 part-time jobs. The province's unemployment rate in September fell to 9.2% from 9.4%.

Saskatchewan posted the lowest unemployment rate among all provinces at 4.6%.
