Employment in Canada rose by 15,200 jobs in August with total employment at approximately 17.1 million, Statistics Canada reported today. The country gained 16,100 full-time jobs, and lost 900 part-time jobs.

The nationwide unemployment rate was unchanged in August from July at 6.1%.

In Ontario, employment rose by 14,000 jobs in August, according to Statistics Canada. The unemployment rate fell to 6.3% in August from 6.4% in July. Increases were seen in construction and service industries.

Alberta continued to have the lowest jobless rate among provinces in August at 3.5%, down from 3.6% in July.
