Canada adds almost 107,000 jobs

Employment in Canada rose by 106,900 jobs in September, bringing total employment to more than 17.2 million, Statistics Canada reported today. Most of the gains were in part time jobs; the country added 96,600.

The healthcare and social assistance sector added 40,000 jobs alone in September, according to Statistics Canada.

Nationwide unemployment rate was unchanged at 6.1% in September from the previous month.

Ontario added 52,200 jobs in September for total employment of more than 6.7 million, according to Statistics Canada. Still, the province's jobless rate edged up to 6.4% from 6.3% in August.

Alberta continued to post the lowest unemployment rate among provinces in September, but its jobless rate rose to 3.8% from 3.5%.
