Canada adds 27,100 jobs in August

Canada gained 27,100 jobs in August bringing the total employment number to approximately 16.8 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by Statistics Canada. The increase came from part-time jobs, of which the country added 30,600. The number of full-time jobs fell by 3,500.

Canada's unemployment rate rose to 8.7% in August from 8.6% in July.

Ontario added a net 12,200 jobs in August. The province lost 23,600 full-time jobs but gained 35,800 part-time jobs.

Ontario's unemployment rate rose to 9.4% from 9.3% in July.

Saskatchewan posted the lowest unemployment rate among all provinces at 5.0%.
