Canada adds 24,700 jobs in May

Canada added approximately 24,700 jobs in May, bringing total employment to almost 17.1 million, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by Statistics Canada. May's unemployment rate was unchanged from the prior month at 8.1%.

Canada gained approximately 67,300 full-time jobs, but lost 42,500 part-time jobs.

Ontario added 17,700 jobs in May. The province gained 25,500 full-time jobs, but lost 7,700 part-time jobs.

The unemployment rate in Ontario was 8.9% in May, up slightly from 8.8% in April.

Saskatchewan posted the lowest jobless rate among provinces at 5.0% in May.
