Canada – Canadian Staffing Index Up 32% Over Year

May 24, 2012

The Canadian Staffing Index rose to a level of 111 in April, up 32 percent from the same month last year and solidly above pre-recession levels. The index is released by the Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services, and it is based on research by Staffing Industry Analysts.

“The April index value represents the seventh consecutive month of double-digit year-over-year growth,” said Timothy Landhuis, Research Analyst at Staffing Industry Analysts. “This clearly shows that the industry is solidly above pre-recession levels in terms of the volume of demand for temporary staffing, as the index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July of 2008.”

Bryan Toffey, ACSESS national president and regional vice president of Aerotek’s Canadian Operations, said “the index is a valuable tool both for benchmarking purposes within our own companies and as a pulse on the economy; as the index is not seasonally adjusted we might expect to see some reduction in the summer months, however, I am confident the upward trend will continue as we head into the fall.”
