Canada: Average weekly earnings up 2.7% over year

March 27, 2013

Average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees in Canada rose 2.7 percent in January on a year-over-year basis to C$908, Statistics Canada reported today. However, January average weekly earnings rose only 0.1 percent sequentially from December.

The 2.7 percent increase in earnings during the 12 months to January reflects a number of factors, including wage growth, changes in composition of employment by industry, occupation and level of job experience, as well as average hours worked per week.

In January, nonfarm payroll employees worked an average of 33.0 hours per week, unchanged from the previous month but up slightly from 32.9 hours from January 2012.
