California Area Registers Highest Metro Jobless Rate

The Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario area in Southern California posted the highest jobless rate in November, at 11.3 percent, among large metropolitan areas with populations of 1 million or more, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The Oklahoma City and the New Orleans areas posted the lowest jobless rates at 4.5 and 4.7 percent, respectively.

Among metropolitan areas of all sizes, the Yuma, Ariz., and El Centro, Calif., areas recorded the highest unemployment rates in November at 27.5 percent and 26.6 percent respectively. Bismarck, N.D., registered the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent.
