Calian Technology Revenue Edges Up 2%

Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX: CTY) reported revenue rose 1.7 percent on a year-over-year basis in its fiscal third quarter ended June 30. Revenue was C$58.5 million (US$59.9 million) compared with C$57.6 million a year ago.

Calian, based in Ottawa, provides information technology, healthcare and technical staffing and solutions.

Its business and technology services division — which includes staffing and project-based outsourcing — posted third-quarter revenue of C$40.3 million (US$41.2 million). That was up 0.9 percent from year-ago revenue of C$39.9 million. The company reported the division was impacted by a slowdown in government spending.

Calian’s third-quarter gross margin narrowed to 18.6 percent from 20.2 percent in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin in the business and technology services division edged down to 16.1 percent from 16.5 percent a year ago.

Calian reported net earnings of C$3.5 million (US$3.5 million), down 10.2 percent from C$3.8 million last year.
