Calian Revenue Up 2%

Calian Technologies Ltd. (TSX: CTY), an Ottawa-based firm, reported first-quarter revenue rose 3 percent to C$38.1 million (US$28.7 million) in its business and technology services division.

The division provides information technology, engineering, healthcare and other staffing services. It also provides IT and engineering solutions.

Total first-quarter revenue at Calian rose 2.3 percent to C$53.3 million (US$40.24 million)."As expected, overall margins have dipped slightly from the same quarter last year, but have remained in line with those achieved in the previous quarter," President and CEO Ray Basler commented.

In addition to its business and technology services division, Calian also operates a systems engineering division that provides technical solutions, primarily to the satellite communications sector.

First-quarter gross margin narrowed to 19.5 percent from 20.5 percent in the first quarter of the previous year.

Net income in the first quarter fell 8.8 to C$3.1 million (US$2.3 million).
