CIO survey: Trying out workers helpful

Almost three-quarters of chief information officers say it's helpful to bring in tech workers on a contract basis before hiring them full time, according to a survey by Robert Half Technology, a division of Robert Half International Inc. (NYSE: RHI).

Among the CIOs, 28% said bringing in a worker on a contract basis before hiring he or she full time was very valuable and another 45% said it was somewhat valuable -- for a total of 73%.

Twenty-five percent said it wasn't valuable and 2% didn't know or didn't answer.

The survey included 1,400 CIOs from across the U.S.
