Bureau says recession is over

September 21, 2010

The recession ended in June 2009, the National Bureau of Economic Research announced Monday.

June 2009 marked the "trough" of the recession, after which economic growth resumed.

The recession began in December 2007 and, at 18 months, was the longest of any recession since World War II. The two longest recessions prior to the most recent both lasted 16 months and took place from 1973 to 1975 and from 1981 to 1982.
