Brazil – Ciett discusses appropriate staffing industry regulation during five-day visit

06 March 2015

During a five-day trip to Brazil, which concludes today, the International Confederation of Private Employment Agencies (Ciett) met with government and staffing industry leaders to discuss appropriate levels of regulation for the country’s employment and recruitment industry.

Ciett Board members, including President Annemarie Muntz, met with Senators and Members of the Brazilian Parliament, and were present at plenary sessions of both houses of parliament.

They also met with the Secretary of Labour and discussed key topics; such as achieving appropriate regulation for the industry in Brazil, the industry’s contribution to job creation, and how it can convert undeclared work into decent work.

A joint conference in São Paulo with Sindeprestem, the Trade Union for Outsourced and Temporary Employment Services, gathered representatives from the government, the recruitment industry, trade unions, and the ILO. The representatives discussed the role of agency work and its contribution to a better functioning labour market.

Ciett urged the participants at the conference to express their commitment to work together to achieve better regulation on the industry in Brazil. They also called on participants to fight unemployment and reduce the level of informal work.
