Brain scan out, jury rules for staffing firm

May 19, 2010

A jury in Brooklyn ruled in favor of a staffing firm in a sexual harassment case that drew national attention because a plaintiff's attorney tried to use a lie-detecting brain scan, Wired.com reported.

A temporary worker from CoreStaff Services claimed she was denied assignments because she complained about sexual harassment on one assignment. The plaintiff's attorney tried to use a lie-detecting brain scan to verify testimony from a staffing firm worker that a manager asked him not re-assign the temp. However, a judge ruled against allowing the brain scan as evidence.

It was one of the first times a lie-detecting brain scan would have been used in court, according to Wired.com.
