Belgium – Strong temporary staffing growth continues

The number of hours worked by temporary workers in Belgium increased by 11.8% in February 2015, compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from Federgon, the Belgian Federation of Staffing Agencies.

This follows an increase of 12.3% in the number of hours worked during January 2015, compared with the same month last year. The Belgian staffing market also reported year-on-year growth every month during 2014, firmly underscoring the recovery of the country’s temporary labour market.

The number of hours worked by blue-collar workers increased by 12.0% compared with February 2014, while white-collar temporary workers worked 11.6% more hours.

Compared with January 2015, the number of hours worked by temporary workers in February rose by 0.1% (compared to a 4.3% month-on-month increase in January 2015). The number of hours worked by blue-collar workers remained stable, month-on-month, while the number of hours worked by white-collar workers increased by 0.2%.

The Federgon Index reached 235.8 points in February, up from 235.7 points in January 2015. The index is used as an indicator of the level of activity each month in comparison with the 100 index points in January 1995 when the index was launched.
