Belgium – Strong staffing market growth continues

The number of hours worked by temporary workers in Belgium increased sharply by 16.6% in May 2015, compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from Federgon, the Belgian Federation of Staffing Agencies.

This follows an increase of 12.3% in the number of hours worked during January 2015, 11.8% in February, 8.2% in March, and 9.7% in April compared with the same month last year.

The Belgian staffing market also reported year-on-year growth every month during 2014.

The number of hours worked by blue-collar workers increased by 15% compared with May 2014, while white-collar temporary workers also worked 18.8% more hours.

Compared with April 2015, the number of hours worked by temporary workers in May increased by 2.8%. An improvement following month-on-month growth of 1.3% between March and April.

The number of hours worked by blue-collar workers increased by 2.1%, month-on-month while the number of hours worked by white-collar workers increased by 3.7%.

The Federgon Index was 247.3 points in May, up from 240.6 points in April. The index is used as an indicator of the level of activity each month in comparison with the 100 index points in January 1995 when the index was launched.
