Belgium – Growth returns to the staffing industry

The number of hours worked by temporary workers in Belgium increased strongly by +12.6% in June 2014, compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures from the Belgian Federation Staffing Agencies (Federgon).

The staffing market rebounded following a slowdown in growth during May, when the number of hours worked by temporary workers increased by only +4.1%, following a year-on-year increase of +9.6% in April.

Compared with June 2013, the number of hours worked by blue-collar workers increased by +13.7%, compared with growth of +11% for white-collar workers.

On a month-on-month basis the number of hours worked by temporary workers across Belgium increased by +4.2%. Blue-collar workers reported a +4.2% increase in the number of hours worked, while white-collar workers reported an increase of +4.15%.

The Federgon Index reached 224.7 points in June, compared with 215.7 points in May. The index is used as an indicator of the level of activity each month in comparison with the 100 index points in January 1995 when the index was launched.
