Second-quarter revenue rose 13.0% at Barrett Business Services Inc. (NASD: BBSI) to $72.2 million.

Staffing services revenue at the Vancouver WA-based company increased 36.5% to $40.6 million. However, Barrett's professional employer organization net revenue fell 7.5% to $31.6 million.

Gross margin narrowed to 19.5% from 23.4%.

Second-quarter net income fell 33.4% to $3.3 million from $4.9 million in the same period last year.
