‘Ban the Box’ Takes Effect in Philly

A new “ban the box” law that prohibits employers in Philadelphia from asking job applicants about criminal record information in the first interview goes into effect today, CBS Philly reported.

Criminal records checks as part of the employment screening have come under fire recently. This week, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported that Pepsi Beverages agreed to pay $3.1 million to resolve issues of race discrimination over the use of background checks.
