Average weekly earnings rise 0.1%

Real average weekly earnings rose 0.1% in September from August, according to preliminary, seasonally adjusted data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. A 0.4% increase in average hourly earnings was offset by a 0.3% increase in the consumer price index for urban wage earners and clerical workers. Average weekly earnings were $602.95 in September before seasonal adjustment and inflation, compared with $573.25 in September 2006. Data on average weekly earnings are taken from nonfarm payrolls.
