Average of Jobless Claims Rises by 750

The four-week moving average of initial unemployment claims rose to 383,500 in the week ended April 28, an increase of 750 from the previous week’s revised average of 382,750, according to seasonally adjusted numbers released today by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average reduces the volatility of the weekly numbers. Total initial claims fell to 365,000, down 27,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 392,000.
