Average US weekly wage rises 3% in Q2

The US average weekly wage rose 3.0% in the second quarter to $968 when compared with the same quarter in 2014, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Seven of the top 10 counties in terms of percent increase in average weekly wage were in California.

Santa Clara County in California, home to Silicon Valley, posted the second-highest year-over-year increase in average weekly wage, rising 11.3%. Santa Clara County also posted the highest average weekly wage of any county in the US at $2,109 in the second quarter.

Ventura County in California posted the largest percentage increase in weekly wage with a gain of 15.2%. Olmsted County in Minnesota posted the largest percentage decrease in average weekly wage, falling 5.2%.

The 10 US counties with the highest year-over-year percent increases in average weekly wage in the second quarter included:

  1. Ventura, Calif., up 15.2%
  2. Santa Clara, Calif., up 11.3%
  3. Forsyth, NC, up 10.9%
  4. Riverside, Calif., up 8.7%
  5. San Francisco, Calif., up 8.6%
  6. Davidson, Tenn., up 8.1%
  7. Santa Barbara, Calif., up 7.8%
  8. Middlesex, Mass., up 7.5%
  9. Marin, Calif., up 6.6%
  10. San Mateo, Calif., up 6.5%
