Average Hourly Earnings Fall

September 15, 2011

Real average hourly earnings for all employees slipped 0.6 percent in August from July, seasonally adjusted, to $10.20, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

A 0.1 percent decrease in average hourly earnings and a 0.4 percent increase in the consumer price index for all urban  consumers are the cause of the decline.

On a year-over-year basis, real average hourly earnings fell 1.9 percent from $10.40, seasonally adjusted, in August.
