Australia – Workers choose flexible schedule over increased pay

08 February 2016

Australian workers are choosing flexibility over pay when it comes to looking for jobs, according to a study by Airtasker, an Australian-based outsourcing company.

The study surveyed 1,002 Australians, with 81.5% agreeing that the traditional 9-to-5 employment model was inflexible – a rise from the 76.4% who agreed with the statement in 2015.

Over the history of the study, Australians have consistently indicated that increased workplace flexibility leads to increased productivity and enjoyment at work. The study showed that 36.8% of those surveyed believe that a flexible work environment leads to increased productivity and motivation. Moreover, 40.4% say that it leads to more enjoyment at work.

According to the research, the preference for job flexibility is largely to do with workers being able to earn a reliable income outside of traditional jobs.
