Arcadia's medical staffing revenue slips

June 25, 2009

Medical staffing and homecare revenue at Arcadia Resources Inc. (AMEX: KAD) fell 3.3% year-over-year $23.2 million in the company's fiscal fourth-quarter ended March 31.

The Indianapolis-based firm reported home care revenue rose $1.6 million while medical staffing revenue fell by $1.9 million. "Demand for per diem and travel nurse staffing remains soft, driven by low patient admission levels and overall economic conditions," according to Arcadia.

Arcadia provides medical staffing, home care and pharmacy services. The company sold its industrial staffing business on May 29 to Employment Plus of Bloomington IN. It also sold its home health equipment businesses and its pharmacy management software business in the first quarter.

Total fourth-quarter revenue rose 0.1% year-over-year to $25.9 million.

Fourth-quarter gross margin edged up to 29.2% from 29.1%.

Arcadia posted a fourth-quarter net loss of $36.7 million compared with a net loss of $3.1 million in the same period last year. The company took a $23.5 million charge for goodwill and intangible asset impairment in the most-recent quarter and a $4.2 million charge for costs associated with a debt restructuring. The impairment charge related primarily to its pharmacy business.

Full-year revenue rose 1.3% year-over-year to $106.1 million, and gross margin rose to 29.9% from 29.2%.

Full-year net loss was $46.5 million compared with $23.4 million in the previous year.
