Agency sets deadline for new I-9 forms

November 27 2007
Employers must start using the new I-9 employment eligibility form by Dec. 26, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Nov. 23.

The new form adds the employment authorization document to the list of approved documents but no longer allows the following five documents as proof of identity and employment eligibility: certificate of U.S. citizenship, certificate of naturalization, alien registration receipt card, the unexpired reentry permit, and the unexpired refugee travel document. The new I-9 forms and the employer handbook are available as downloadable PDFs here.
