Adecco paying $12,000 in EEOC settlement

June 07, 2010

Adecco USA will pay $12,000 to settle a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency announced Friday. The client company, Pittsburgh Plastics Manufacturing Inc. had already agreed to pay $79,500.

According to the EEOC, Veronica Jalpa, Tonya Claypool and other female workers were assigned to Pittsburgh Plastics Manufacturing Inc.'s site in Butler PA. There, a male Pittsburgh Plastics supervisor allegedly engaged in unwelcome physical touching and made lewd and offensive comments, the EEOC alleged.

In addition to the financial damages for Jalpa and Claypool, the settlement also prohibits Adecco from creating or tolerating a hostile work environment at any client site served by its Butler location. In addition, it requires the company to provide anti-harassment training to managers and employees, post notices of this suit and to report back to the EEOC.

"When a staffing agency receives a complaint from one of its temporary employees that she is being sexually harassed at a client's work site, the staffing company must take action to stop the harassment and ensure that there is no retaliation," said EEOC Regional Attorney Debra Lawrence.
