AMN says revenue up in all segments

AMN Healthcare Services Inc. (NYSE: AHS) said second-quarter revenue rose year-over-year in all its segments. And total revenue at the San Diego-based healthcare staffing firm rose 6.4% to $312.7 million from $293.9 million in the same period last year.

Second-quarter nurse and allied healthcare staffing revenue increased 7.0% to $215.3 million. Previously, AMN had announced it acquired Platinum Select LP, a Dallas-based provider of travel nurse and allied healthcare staffing, on Feb. 15.

AMN's second-quarter locum tenens revenue increased 4.9% to $83.9 million, and its physician permanent placement revenue rose 6.6% to $13.5 million.

Gross margin for the company increased to 26.4% from 25.5%.

Net income, however, edged up only 1.3% to $9.4 million from $9.2 million in the second quarter of 2007.

AMN expects third-quarter revenue of between $320 million and $323 million.
