ADP report: U.S. added 32,000 jobs in April

May 05, 2010

The U.S. added an estimated 32,000 nonfarm, private sector jobs in April on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to Automatic Data Processing Inc.'s (NYSE: ADP) monthly employment report released today.

In addition, the report revised its estimate of jobs in March to an increase of 19,000 from a decline of 23,000. It also revised February numbers to show a gain of 3,000 jobs.

ADP reported that the employment numbers to be released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics may be stronger because the ADP report does not include hiring for the U.S. Census.

April's job gain came in the service sector, which added 50,000 jobs, according to the report. That gain was partially offset by a loss of 18,000 jobs in the goods-producing sector.

The ADP report is derived from an anonymous subset of approximately 500,000 U.S. business clients.
