ADP: South Atlantic region posts strongest employment growth

Private-sector employment increased on a seasonally adjusted basis in September in all nine U.S. Census Bureau divisions, according to ADP’s monthly regional employment report. All 29 U.S. states tracked by the report, plus the District of Columbia, also recorded gains in September.

“The South Atlantic region generated the largest number of new-private sector jobs during the month of September, and together with the West South Central and Mountain regions, also recorded the strongest monthly growth rate, based on population,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, senior director of the ADP Research Institute.

Texas, Florida, California, Illinois and Ohio posted the largest job gains during the month; Washington, D.C., and Florida recorded the highest percentage increases at 0.28 percent and 0.26 percent respectively.

  • Alabama: 1,350, +0.09 percent
  • Arizona: 3,620, +0.17 percent
  • California: 16,580, +0.14 percent
  • Colorado: 3,110, +0.16 percent
  • Connecticut: 2,120, +0.15 percent
  • Florida: 16,640, +0.26 percent
  • Georgia: 4,470, +0.13 percent
  • Idaho: 1,270, +0.24 percent
  • Illinois: 8,540, +0.17 percent
  • Indiana: 4,600, +0.18 percent
  • Kentucky: 1,990, +0.07 percent
  • Maryland: 1,070, +0.05 percent
  • Massachusetts: 1,580, +0.05 percent
  • Michigan: 3,810, +0.11 percent
  • Minnesota: 740, +0.03 percent
  • Nevada: 210, +0.02 percent
  • New Jersey: 4,130, +0.12 percent
  • New York: 7,660, +0.10 percent
  • North Carolina: 6,200, +0.18 percent
  • Ohio: 8,080, +0.18 percent
  • Oregon: 1,370, +0.10 percent
  • Pennsylvania: 4,580, 0.09 percent

ADP and Moody’s Analytics Inc. derived the report from an anonymous subset of about 406,000 U.S. business clients, which employ more than 23 million U.S. workers.
