ADP: Job growth slows in June

June 30, 2010

Growth in private employment looks to have slowed, according to Automatic Data Processing Inc.'s (NYSE: ADP) monthly employment report released today.

The U.S. added just 13,000 nonfarm, private sector jobs in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to the report. That compares to estimated gains of 65,000 in April and 57,000 in May.

The service sector added 30,000 jobs in June, but the goods-producing sector lost 17,000.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release employment numbers for May tomorrow. Unlike the BLS report, ADP's report does not include federal hiring for the 2010 Census.

The ADP report is derived from an anonymous subset of approximately 500,000 U.S. business clients.
