ADP: Franchises add 19,160 jobs

Private-sector franchise jobs increased by 19,160 in May, according to the first monthly ADP National Franchise Report, which measures monthly changes in franchise employment. Over the past twelve months, the franchise industries measured added approximately 150,000 jobs.

“During the month of May, U.S. franchise employment increased for most of the franchise industries the ADP National Franchise Report measures, with restaurants, business services and food retailers showing the largest increases,” said Ahu Yildirmaz, senior director of the ADP Research Institute. “In May, these three industries generated a combined total of 17,590 private-sector franchise jobs — offset primarily by losses in education and professional services in May.”

Restaurants added 13,900 jobs, followed by business services with 2,530 jobs and food retailers with 1,080 jobs. Education lost 940 jobs and professional services lost 710 jobs.

ADP produced by the report in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics Inc. The report is derived from ADP payroll data, which represents 15,000 franchisors and franchisees employing nearly 1 million workers in the United States.
