ADP: Franchises add 16,160 jobs

Private-sector franchise jobs increased by 16,160  in August, according to the ADP National Franchise Report, which measures monthly changes in franchise employment. However, August’s franchise job increase remained below the six-month average of 19,770 jobs.

Restaurants added 8,740 jobs — below the six-month average of 9,210 — followed by auto parts and dealers with 3,760 jobs. Gasoline Stations and auto repair lost 1,620 jobs and professional services lost 490 jobs.

  • Gasoline stations and auto repair: -1,620

  • Personal care retailers: 220
  • Personal services: 670

  • Rental: -140
  • Restaurants: 8,740
  • Other: 1,640

ADP produced the report in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics Inc. The report is derived from ADP payroll data, which represents 15,000 franchisors and franchisees employing nearly 1 million workers in the United States.
