Oakland A’s General Manager Billy Beane helped usher in the stats revolution in baseball. His approach was highlighted in the book Moneyball, which was also made into a movie starring Brad Pitt. And some of what he learned can be used in other types of business, according to an article in the January/February issue of Staffing Industry Review.

Each industry is unique, Beane said. However, there are certain commonalities everybody is looking for. “We’re hoping to get the best performance we can in terms of the amount of investment we make,” Beane said. And the aim is to do so in a consistent manner.
