American Airlines plans to hire more than 1,500 flight attendants in the next year, its largest group in more than a decade. Recruitment will begin in November for training in January.

The demand stems from recent voluntary separation options offered to current flight attendants, combined with an aggressive training schedule during the transition to a newly established flight attendant contract.
