Maybe we haven't gotten to the point where people say, 'Oh I am a contingent workforce manager' much the same way as with lawyers or doctors ,but it's getting to be a profession. At the third annual CWS Summit in Dallas this year as I went around chatting with all the attendees, it became clear that more and more people are working full time in a field that is emerging as an important facet of a corporation's bottom line. Most love it. More importantly, these managers think they are making a difference. That was a recurring sentiment that came across during the conference's two days of sessions both in formal presentations and informal discussions. 'Contingent workforce management is all about talent acquisition,' an attendee told me. 'Many of us fell into it but we stayed on because it's great to give someone a break, watch them grow and develop.' The demands are tough especially in a market where there is a shortage of talent. But that's where the contingent workforce manager comes in. And if he or she does their job right, the potential upside to both the individual and the corporation is great.
