We're getting a lot of questions about why IT staffing is doing so well these days compared to other staffing segments and what skills are driving this growth. As I mentioned in a previous blog, the growth in IT staffing is more a function of deferred demand rather than any particular technology creating a buzz. But for the record, we actually have done a little research to find out what, if anything is really hot. The short answer is: everything.
Specifically, we looked at data from Dice.com, one of the biggest job boards in the United States for technology and engineering professionals. Dice.com publishes a monthly survey of trends in job advertising volume by skill. An examination of trend data from October 2009 through September 2010 gives insight into the programming languages that are currently in greater demand.
Anecdotally, our conversations with IT staffing buyers indicate that buyers are looking for professionals in data management, Web development, networking and wireless technology. Additionally, healthcare technology is fast becoming a sweet spot for many IT staffing firms that have expertise in that area.
So, in short, no new technology on the horizon is fueling performance from IT staffing companies, but established skills are doing just fine.
