IT staffing firms led all other segments of the professional staffing sector in terms of representation on SIA’s recently updated list of largest U.S. staffing firms. According to our estimates, of the 122 firms that qualified for inclusion by generating at least $100 million in staffing revenue in 2014 (comprising temporary staffing and place & search), 35 indicated IT as their primary skill segment supplied. One firm that we would classify as “pure play” IT managed to crack the top-20, with Insight Global ranking in the 14th spot.
Taking a more detailed look at the segment exclusively is our Largest U.S. IT Staffing Firms report. This year’s list features 41 firms that generated at least $100 million in IT temporary staffing revenue in the U.S. in 2014, combining to represent $16.3 billion, or 63% of the total U.S. IT temporary staffing market, according to our estimates. Market concentration held steady from last year, with the five largest capturing 30% and the 15 largest controlling 48%, and indeed has been fairly stable since the last wave of consolidation witnessed in 2008-2010.
It is notable that a single firm controls a double-digit share of the IT temporary staffing market in the U.S. — more than twice that of the second-largest player. That firm is Allegis Group with its TEKsystems brand, which we estimate generated more than $3 billion in IT temporary staffing revenue in the U.S. last year. On Assignment held steady from the 2014 list in the second slot, while Insight Global and Randstad Technologies swapped positions, coming in at third and fourth, respectively. Rounding out the top-five was Experis, the IT staffing brand of ManpowerGroup.
